Post-Punk Monk "“Your House is Full Of Baby Dolls” was a far more intense vibe; landing close to the garage soul of The Box Tops thanks to McKenna’s urgent backbeat, and a descending guitar hook from McDowall." about

Fay says …
This track is the first recording completed by The Countess of Fife. It was was musically inspired by Allan Mcdowall's country blues style of guitar which has a rhythm and earthiness all its own. The lyrics are a serious matter and were triggered by watching the mass alienation of people in many parts in the world. But the lyrics are about personal experiences too: things Ive seen and things Ive felt about un-belonging and alienation. The lyrics chiefly take a woman's perspective and speak of the responsibilities that come to us. There is a photograph by Dorothea Lange which was taken in the dustbowl during the great depression. Look it up: somehow it says it all.

lyrics

YOUR HOUSE IS FULL OF BABY DOLLS

I’m not welcome in your home
You turn away when I call your name
And I know
I am the bride and you are the groom
Ugly babies have come
And the bad one’s to blame
And I try, and I try
But I just can’t understand
Though it can’t be denied

Those baby dolls
Have come to town
They’re gonna
Tear that old house down
And I say
Oh, oh and they just can’t let it go

The roof is fallin down the drain
I am the baby and daddy
Will come back again
I know nothing and you are a fool
I thought that I was entitled to keep you alone
In your room
In a house
Out of time
But when they call
You’re never at home
I’m beginning to think
I’m not a woman at all

Those baby dolls
Have come to town
They’re gonna
Tear that old house down
And I say
Oh, oh and they just can’t let it go

Those baby dolls

Every man agonises over his drive
You could be part of that
Secret deadly obsession
Every woman will fade out of view
Somehow you’re more alluring
You’re more alive
And the rain’s fallin down
You’re a homeless woman this time
Better hide what you find

Those baby dolls
Have come to town
They’re gonna tear that old house down and I say
Oh, oh and they just can’t let it go
Those baby dolls
They’re comin down down down
My house is full of baby dolls
