about

Trapped is the 2nd single from Countess of Fife album STAR OF THE SEA. It was written during lockdown and reflects my own experience of feeling well and truly stuck during that period. It also looks back to a childhood experience in Fife - did I dream it?- or is there really a statue that I saw back then- of a woman who was buried - her grave robbed & who then came back to life ! - Its a pretty psychological song too - I guess we can all fee Trapped sometimes - in many different ways....

lyrics

TRAPPED

Verse 1
I feel like a woman buried too soon
And I can’t leave –
This little bit of earths my home
The light could be streaming into the room
It must be morning somewhere
When the night comes down

The creatures hide away
Behind an unmade bed
And an old worn dressing gown
Is hanging there

CHORUS
Like the words you could never say
Other things got in the way
Oh God I think that you’re trapped
Like a wasp inside a jar
All the loneliness of bars
Singing songs with wash day pals
Won’t save you -

Now that you’re trapped
Save you now
They won’t save you now

Verse 2
Mother came to me in a dream
What kept you there so long?
She said - I am a woman buried too deep
Hide it in the cupboard
Behind the clothes you didn’t really need

He worked his life away
With pride and fealty
But she will never be alright
She’ll leave him hanging there – all night

CHORUS
Like the things they never did
Other things happened instead
Oh God I think that they’re trapped
Like a wasp inside a jar
All the laughing boys in broken cars
Singing songs with wash day pals

Won’t save you now
They won’t save you now
They won’t save you
Now that you’re trapped

CHORUS/reprise
A wasp inside a jar (Oh Lord I think you’re trapped)
Loneliness in a bar (Oh God I think you’re trapped)
Laughing boys in broken cars (They won’t save you now)

I feel like a woman buried too soon
I feel like a woman buried too deep
I feel like a woman buried too soon
I feel like a woman buried too deep
I feel like a woman buried

It must be morning somewhere
