about

At last this song has been given its proper recording worth! This was recorded at the quite legendary Castlesound Studios near Edinburgh with high production values and captured expertly by Jim Sutherland in the producers chair. Earthy country inspired strings were added, nodding to one of the songs points of inspiration: Glen Campbell's Wichita Lineman. The beautiful tones of Kirsten Adamson's backing vocals add rich harmonies to the soaring chorus and Allan Mcdowall's edgy, earthy guitar roots the song to the earth before it takes flight..... WANDERING STAR (in a nascent form) was one of the first songs to emerge from The Countess of Fife. Allan Mcdowall and myself wrote the music for this song and strangely it seemed to emerge out of its own ether. It had a life of its own outside of us. The lyrics I wrote were inspired by many things; rainy days in Argyle, old tin roofs on rained on crofts, a guitarist pal who was so skint he never had a working guitar & most of all the hope and reality of love: both spiritual and temporal. Fay XX

lyrics

WANDERING STAR

Rain fallin on my old tin roof
And pretty soon
It's gonna take me back
To lonesome Ray

And when the rain is falling down
A tiny sliver of light
Is breaking through
On another shore
For Lonesome Ray

YOU’RE MY WANDERING STAR
BE MY WANDERING STAR

Hold on to what we all deserve
Lose that battered thing
Cause pretty soon
We’re gonna stay in tune
Lonesome Ray

The wind and rain are yours and mine
And maybe soon
We’re gonna keep that thing
Lonesome Ray

CHORUS
YOU’RE MY WANDERING STAR
BE MY WANDERING STAR
STAY MY WANDERING STAR

Rain fallin on my old tin roof
(be my be my wandering star)
And pretty soon
It's gonna take me there
(stay my stay my wandering star)
I think I’ll stay here for another year
With my wandering star

YOU’RE MY WANDERING STAR
BE MY WANDERING STAR
STAY MY WANDERING STAR
